Iran to Resume Electricity Export to Iraq

An Iranian delegation is currently in Baghdad to renew the contract on Iran`s electricity sales to that country. said Managing Director of Tavanir Electricity Generation. Transmission. and Distribution Company Arash Kordi.
He said the electricity exports were brought to a halt due to the expiry of the contract and the resumption of the process would require a new amendment to the contract.
He reiterated that the new agreement needs to be modified in accordance with the current circumstances and the changes in currency prices among other major issues.
Asked about the possibility of an uplift in volume of electricity exports to Iraq. Kordi said that general conditions had been laid in that regard though the issue would become clear once negotiations become finalized.”
In relevant remarks in late November. Iranian Trade Attaché to Baghdad Ebrahim Rezazdeh announced that the country`s non-oil exports to Iraq had exceeded six billion dollars.
We have exported $6.2 billion of non-oil goods to Iraq. including $2.2 billion worth of agricultural products and foodstuff. Rezazadeh said.
Rezazadeh underlined the importance of Iraq’s market for exporting Iranian products. and said. Our exports to Iraq have increased by 17 times as compared with the year 2005.
He noted that 70 percent of Iran`s exports in 2015 were destined for China. Iraq. UAE. Afghanistan. India and Turkey.
