Pakistan Ready to Launch Gwadar-Chabahar Ferry Services

Pakistani Ports and Shipping Minister Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo underlined that his country prioritizes boosting cooperation with Iran in the transport sector. and said efforts are underway to launch ferry services between his country`s Gwadar. Karachi ports and Iran`s Chabahar.
If Iran wants to come with a joint venture or it wants to run its own ferry services between Karachi. Gwadar and Chabahar. we are ready for that.” Bizenjo said..
The Pakistani transport minister underlined the need for linking Gwadar to Chabahar so that both ports can help each other in transporting goods.
In relevant remarks on Tuesday. a senior lawmaker said that Iran and Pakistan are planning to exchange visits by the two countries` lawmakers to travel to their respective Chabahar and Gwadar ports in a bid to find out about their trade capacities.
Both Iran and Pakistan have agreed that Chabahar and Gwadar are not rival ports. but will complement each other when completed. Chairman of Pakistani National Assembly Standing Committee Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari told reporters
“We have decided to coordinate reciprocal trips by Iranian and Pakistani lawmakers to visit Chabahar and Gwadar ports and see for themselves the two ports capacities for international trade.” Leghari added.
Also on Monday. Bizenjo underlined that Iran`s Chabahar will in no way impede the trade activities of its counterpart in Pakistan. Gwadar.
The two ports (Chabahar and Gwadar) are not rivals but they complement each other. Bizenjo said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honardoust.
He reiterated that Pakistan is interested to link Gwadar and Chabahar ports through road and railway networks.
Also in late May. Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif underlined that Iran`s Chabahar is not a rival of its Pakistani counterpart. Gwadar.
Iran is the friendly and neighboring country of Pakistan and we do not have any objection to the development project of Chabahar port. Asif told reporters.
In May. Tehran. New Delhi and Afghanistan signed an epoch-making agreement in Tehran to establish a transit and transportation corridor.
The agreement known as Chabahar Trilateral Agreement was signed by the three countries` officials in the presence of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tehran.
The trilateral Chabahar agreement will considerably increase making use of Chabahar port that will connect India to Central Asia through Afghanistan and instead will provide Afghanistan`s access to India via sea.
