France Reaffirms Commitment to Nuclear Deal

A senior French parliamentary official reiterated his side’s commitment to the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement. “France remains committed to the nuclear agreement and would not like to see it called into question.” said the head of France-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group Joel Gurriau.
Gurriau. who was on a visit to Tehran accompanied by a French parliamentary delegation and Deputy Speaker of the French Senate Herve Marseille. made the pledge in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart. Kazem Jalali.
France was among the six powers that negotiated the accord with Iran. It was meant to settle a 12-year dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program by curbing it in exchange for easing international sanctions.
Jalali noted that the sanctions-free situation in the wake of the deal augurs well for improving Paris-Tehran relations.
“The two countries can develop constructive bilateral ties based on mutual respect and cooperation in the post-deal era.” he said. The month-old US administration has adopted a hostile stance on the pact and has insisted on the need to renegotiate the UN-endorsed agreement.
France and other US partners. namely Britain. China and Russia plus Germany. have opposed that idea.
