Iran`s Zinc Ingot Export Up by 22.5%

Managing Director of Iran Zinc Mines Development Company Ardeshir Saad Mohammadi told reporters on Tuesday that Iran’s Zinc is bought with a higher price than the global one adding “deals have been inked for sales of more than 76.000 tons out of 80.000 tons of zinc ingot produced last year while the remaining amount will be turned into Zinc powder.”
The official added the envisaged figure for the previous Iranian year (ended March 21) had been 77.000 tons of Zinc but the country managed to exceed the target by manufacturing 80.000 tons of the product.
Saad Mohammadi recalled that only 65.000 tons of zinc ingot had been produced two years earlier and the figure for last year revealed a 22.5% upsurge.
“On the basis of official reports by to the International Lead Zinc Association. Iran with 0.9 percent share in the Zinc production ranks 11th in the world and 4th in Asia.” he continued. He further noted that the country also ranked 7th in Asia and 19th in the world as regards lead ingot production.
Statistics show that. in terms of lead consumption. Iran is placed in the 15th position in Asia and 28th in the world.
Saad Mohammadi also noted that Iran National Lead Zinc Company for the first time managed to hit the record of zinc ingot production with 99.99% purity. adding that active presence in the world markets. especially for the lead and zinc mines. is among the targets and for the time being Turkey and Nigeria are the top choice markets.
“Iran is in charge of a mine in Turkey though measures are being taken to swap it with another one with more favorable conditions and higher purity.” highlighted the MD of Iran Zinc Mines Development Company.
Studies show that lead is mainly consumed in battery and cable industries as well as in the army while zinc is primarily used in galvanized. steel. electrical. molding. bronze and chemical industries.
