South Korean utility Kogas has joined forces with POSCO Daewoo to bid for the 7.5 million tonne a year (mta) LNG-import terminal that Petrobangla subsidiary Rupantarita Prakritik Gas wants to develop onshore on Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal.
Kogas and POSCO Daewoo jointly submitted a preliminary bid to build the terminal. according to media reports from South Korea. SK Group subsidiary SK E&amp.S is also said to be bidding against five Japanese players. two from China and one from the US.
Rupantarita Prakritik Gas’ proposed terminal supplements the pfoject on Moheshkhali Island that Excelerate Energy is developing for Petrobangla.. using a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to import up to 3.5 mta using a submerged-turret loading buoy. That project is due to launch next year.
Bangladesh plands a third LNG-import venture on Moheshkhali. at Matabari. Power Cell is offering a 60% stake in this land-based. 3.5 mta project. The shortlisted bidders are Mitsui &amp. Co. Petronet. EP International and a Chinese consortium. led by China Huanqiu Contracting &amp. Engineering and Yifeng Industrial Gas.
Rupantarita Prakritik Gas will shortlist the five strongest bids next year. The Indian subcontinent is emerging as one of the world’s fastest-growing LNG-import markets.
