Iran will Attend 61st IAEA General Conference

Iran`s top nuclear official is to attend the 61st International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference slated for Monday. Sep 18. in the Austrian capital.
Ali Akbar Salehi. Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). is to address the annual conference and meet with his counterparts on the sidelines of the event.
According to the IAEA website. the week-long event is `to deliberate on key elements of the Agency’s priorities and work towards the peaceful use of nuclear technologies.`
Representatives of 168 member states are planned to review various nuclear issues including `growing the international cooperation in nuclear. radiation. transport and waste safety. to strengthening the IAEA’s activities related to nuclear science. technology and applications. and its technical cooperation program.`
`The 61st General Conference will also approve the appointment of the Director General for a four-year term commencing in December 2017.`
The IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano is also planned to present a report on the GC (60) RES 15 Resolution which is about `Application of IAEA Safeguards in the Mddle East.`
The report on `Application of IAEA Safeguards in the Middle East` is to be presented at the 61st GC while the Zionist regime with its nuclear arsenal is one of the major threats to the regional and global peace and security.
Iran`s Permanent Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi. during his speech to the IAEA Board of Governors on September 13. said `It’s crystal clear that the Israeli regime’s clandestine and unsafeguarded nuclear weapons program is the most serious threat to the regional and international peace and security which requires serious attention of this august body without further delay.`
The Zionist regime refused to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) despite international pressure.
