Iran will Increase Electricity Export to Turkey

Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said that his country has sealed a new agreement with Turkey to increase the volume of electricity exports to its neighboring country. adding that Tehran and Ankara will resume electricity swap.

Speaking in an inaugurating ceremony in Southwestern Province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari on Tuesday. Ardakanian said that the volume of electricity exports to neighboring Turkey will increase from the current level of 640 MW to 1.280 MW. recounting the of resumption of electricity swap between the two countries.

He added that he had separate bilateral talks with Turkish and Russian counterparts in Ankara on Monday evening on the sidelines of the trilateral summit on Syria to discuss advancing the economic plans between Iran-Turkey and Iran-Russia.

Earlier on the same day. Iranian President`s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi. who headed the 27th Joint Iran-Turkey Economic Commission meeting along with the Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez in Ankara on Tuesday. underlined that Tehran will continue boosting cooperation and expansion of relations with Turkey in all aspects without any restrictions.

Elsewhere in his remarks. the minister said that with the approval of the Russian president. Russia will finance a 1400-megawatt thermal power plant in Iran`s Sirik County in Hormozgan Province. and the electrification of Garmsar-Incheboron railway valued at € 2.3 billion.

The Iranian energy minister added he will travel to Moscow within the next two months as the head of Iran-Russia joint commission for economic cooperation to discuss the projects.

He went on to say that cooperation with neighboring countries including Pakistan. Turkmenistan and Iraq in the field of electricity provides Iran with a special opportunity. specially for the private sector of the country to thrive.

On Sunday. Ardakanian announced that the formalities for a €1.2-billion loan were exchanged between finance ministries of his country and Russia. adding that Tehran will use the money for constructing a major electricity project South of Iran.

Back in early February. Ardakanian said that the power generation of the country has increased by 11.4 times since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Ardakanian said that Iran has moved up 24 ranks in terms of generation of electricity in the past forty years.

According to statistics. Iran’s rank of power generation in the world promoted from 38 to 14 and presently. the Ministry of Energy is exchanging electricity with its neighbors.

He made the remarks on February 02 in a press briefing held at the venue of the Ministry of Energy where evaluated the performance of his ministry in the past forty years and added.
