Iran does not insist importing gas from Turkmenistan. said Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC). Hamid-Reza Araqi.
Araqi told that gas imports are for commercial purposes and are not to address domestic needs.
“Though Turkmenistan disrupted gas exports to Iran. there is no special problem in the country.”
He said continued cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan for gas swap depends on policy of the two governments. “Of course. gas negotiations between the two countries are underway.”
A company in Turkmenistan unilaterally halted gas exports to Iran as early as January. The gas was to meet part of gas needs of northern Iranian provinces.
