Iran to Link Power Grid to Europe

Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian announced that Iran plans to export electricity to Europe.
At present. Iran`s power grid is linked to 7 neighbors and these electricity links will soon be connected to Georgia and Russia. Chitchian said on Saturday.
He added that Iran`s power grid will also be connected to Europe. specially Turkey. which is already purchasing electricity from Iran.
In relevant remarks earlier this month. Iranian Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri announced that his country is in favor of the plan to exchange electricity among Iran. Georgia. Russia and Armenia as a way to develop regional cooperation.
Iran supports the plan and we believe that the existing potentials in these countries can be complementary to each other and meet the interests of all. Jahangiri said in a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Tehran.
Noting that Georgia enjoys good water and wind resources as well as a privileged geographical situation. he said that Iran can transfer its know-how and experience in building dams and turbines to Georgia.
Kvirikashvili. for his part. stressed the importance of cooperation with Iran. Russia. Georgia. Armenia and Azerbaijan. and said his country will put on agenda purchasing turbines from Iran in case of building new power generation plants.
