Wind power production increased sharply in 2020 due to more wind than usual and more completed wind farms.
In total, Norway produced 9.9 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2020. That is 4.4 terawatt-hours more than in 2019, according to figures from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.
A total of 15 new wind farms were completed during 2020. Thus, there were 53 wind farms in Norway at the turn of the year, including parks where development has started but is not completed. These consist of 1,164 wind turbines and will, in a normal year, produce 13 TWh of electricity.
In comparison, total Norwegian power production was at a record high of 154.2 TWh.
The wind blew far more than usual in Norway last year, which also meant that the wind farms produced more than they would have done in a normal year.
On average, Norwegian wind turbines produced 108% of what is normal on an annual basis.
