OECD Invites Argentina to Join Nuclear Energy Agency

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) invited Argentina and Romania to become full members of the Nuclear Energy Agency and its data bank.
The invitation represents a step that signals the growing cooperation between the OECD and both countries. and an evidence of their commitment to best practices in the field of nuclear energy. OECD secretary general Ángel Gurría said in a statement.
Within the context of their national energy policies. both Argentina and Romania are active players in the nuclear energy field. with significant research capacities. the statement said.
The invitation follows news that China will finance Argentina`s fourth and fifth nuclear reactors. which will require investment of US$6bn and US$8bn. respectively.
Argentina is also developing the US$700mn. 32MW Carem small modular nuclear reactor. which is due to start up in 2020.
Chile and Mexico are the only Latin American OECD member countries.
