Iran inaugurated the first unit of a new hydroelectric power plant in the western province of Kermanshah that increased the country’s nominal capacity to produce electricity to more than 77.100 megawatts (MW).
The first unit of the Darian power plant in Kermanshah was recently connected to the national grid. increasing the country’s nominal capacity from 77.038 to 77.108 MW.
The unit. which is the first among three units of the power plant. came into to operation following synchronization with the national grid.
Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian said in July that the country’s nominal capacity to produce electricity would increase by 3.000 megawatts (MW) by the next summer.
Iran is now exporting around 12 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity to its neighbors each year. while the imports stand at an annual level of 4 billion kWh. the minister said at the time.
The country’s electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.
