The gas dispute. which started late 2016 between Iran and Turkmenistan. may soon be examined in an international court. National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) announced.
High price for the exported gas. gas cut without prior notice and low quality of the exported gas are the issues about which Iran has complained regarding gas deal with Turkmenistan.
The dispute started between Iran and Turkmenistan over gas imports when Ashkhabad. despite its previous agreements with Tehran. demanded for illogically high prices for its exported gas to Iran`s northern regions.
On December 30. 2016. Iranian representatives who were in Turkmenistan for talks over the dispute were told by Tehran to leave the negotiating table warning their Turkmen counterparts that Tehran will not accept anything beyond the previously made bilateral agreements.
According to Tehran-Ashkhabad gas deal. the two sides have right to deal with the disputes through holding talks or referring them to the international court. NIGC noted.
About the gas deal. the NIGC said it is an international agreement based on definite rules.
The NIGC also announced that there is no relation between the gas deal with Turkmenistan and the agreement on selling Iran`s gas to the Turkish state pipeline company BOTASH.
Turkmenistan has asked to receive what it said to be a 1.8-billion-dollar debt from Iran. a claim that is not accepted by the Iranian side.
