Iran criticised the Trump administration’s unofficial request to some state members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) along with Saudi Arabia to ramp up oil production to offset the shortfall of Iranian crude exports.
“It`s crazy and astonishing to see instruction coming from Washington to Saudi to act and replace a shortfall of Iran`s export due to their Illegal sanction on Iran and Venezuela.` Iran’s OPEC governor Hossein Kazempour Ardebili told Reuters on Friday.
Since founded in 1960. OPEC have always collaborated over oil policy despite intervals of differences and disputes between some members.
Members of the organization. who are due to meet on 22 June in Vienna. would not comply with the US request “against two of its founder members.` Kazempour predicted.
The US move “[underestimates] the history of 60 years` cooperation among competitors.` he said. adding that “the US tried it last time against Iran. but oil prices got to $140 a barrel.“
It is worth noting that Washington made an unofficial request to OPEC to increase crude production by almost 1 million barrels per day (bpd). as reported by Bloomberg News earlier in the week.
