Iran`s Non-Oil Trade with Afghanistan Rise By Almost 30%

Iran traded almost 2.2 million tons of non-oil commodities worth $1.1 billion with Afghanistan during the first four months of Iran’s current fiscal year. the Financial Tribune reported.

According to the report. this registered a 14.8 percent and 29.95 percent increase in tonnage and value respectively compared with last year`s corresponding period. 

Iran`s exports to Afghanistan stood at 2.18 million tons worth $1.10 billion. up 15.21 percent and 30.69 percent in tonnage and value respectively year-on-year. Afghanistan was Iran`s fourth biggest export destination during the period. 

Iran mainly exported low-density oil. hydrocarbides and floorings to Afghanistan during the four-month period. Afghanistan exported 3.402 tons of goods worth $3.88 million to Iran. down 64.78 percent and 50.53 percent in tonnage and value respectively year-on-year. the Financial Tribune reported. 

The country was the 68th major exporter of goods to Iran over the four months. The imports mainly included sesame. caraway and other herbs.

Earlier this year. Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries said Iran was Afghanistan’s biggest trade partner in the last solar year (March 2017-18) and exported goods worth over $1.98 billion.

ACCI said trade volume was $1.2 billion between Afghanistan and Pakistan and $1 billion with China in the same period.

“Now Iran is our biggest (trade) partner.“ ACCI deputy chief. Khan Jan Alokozay. told TOLOnews at the time.

“Iran has overtaken Pakistan’s place. which means we have more than $2 billion in imports and exports with Iran. Imports are high but exports are a lot less. Meanwhile. transit is also good through that route (Iran).“ he said. 

According to ACCI. Afghanistan’s trade volume with all countries for the year totaled $7 billion.
