U.S. Pressures Influence Withdrawal of Total from Iran

The pressures of the United States in commercial and economic issues influenced in the announcement today of the withdrawal of French oil company Total operations in Iran.

The Minister of Oil of this country. Bijan Namdar Zanganeh. said this Monday that French company abandoned officially this nation.

Such decision was due to Washington`s announcement that it would impose sanctions on enterprises making business with this Islamic republic.

The declarations were spread by the agency Shana. in which the official said that Total abandoned officially the contract of development of the phase 11 of South Pars.

He also said that over two months ago he had said that company would withdraw from their contract. Moreover. the Minister referred that the substitution of Total by another firm is already underway.

Total signed such agreement in July. 2017 with Petropars. subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). that included 19.9 percent of the project. and the China`s National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). in charge of the other 30 percent.

The deal included development of phase 11. the last section of the gas deposit of South Pars. the greatest in the world of this hydrocarbon.

Zangane said opportunely that if Total withdrew from the project. it would be replaced by the Chinese corporation. increasing its interest from the present 30 percent to over 80 percent.
