Iran provincial official likens Makran Coast to `wings of development`

The 1500-kilometer Makran Coast. with half of it stretching in Pakistan’s Balouchistan Province and the other half in Iran`s Sistan-Baluchestan Province is similar to wings of development for the two nations. said the governor general in the Iranian southeastern province.

Investing in the infrastructures of Makran Coast can uphold the dignity of the two nations. said Ahmad-Ali Mohebati in a meeting with Chief Secretary of Pakistan’s Balochistan province Akhtar Nazir Tuesday evening.

 

Chabahar and Gwadar ports can also in turn serve as wings of development for Makran Coast. Mohebati said.

 

Utilizing the capacities of the two ports in Iran and Pakistan. including establishing border markets and economic free zones. can effectively enhance the life of the people on the both sides of the border. he added.

 

He stressed that the border habitants in southeastern parts of Iran and western parts of Pakistan have kinship relations with each other and if the governments do not facilitate legal cross-border commuting. they will choose illegal ways to do so.

 

Iran exports petrochemical gasses. fuels. and electricity to Pakistan. the Iranian governor general added.

 

Mohebati referred to the kidnapping of Iranian border guards on October 15 and added that the terrorists have migrated from Iraq and Syria to Iran’s eastern neighbors of Afghanistan and Pakistan. and neglecting combating them may be perilous for both countries.

 

He said that Iran follows up the correction of Mirjaveh-Zahedan-Kerman railway to replace Mirajave as Iran’s main trade portal with Pakistan instead of current Bandar Abbas-Karachi sea lane.

 

He stressed that Iran and Pakistan have high-level friendly relations.

 

Akhtar Nazir. for his part. said that development of Gwadar Port plays a key role in the development of Pakistan.

 

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasized development of the port during his recent visit to Balouchistan Province.

 

He expressed hope that the road and airport infrastructure of Gwadar Port and border passages in Pakistan borders will be opened soon.

 

He said that the establishment of border markets was emphasized during the joint border meeting with Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan provincial officials.

 

Akhtar Nazir came to Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan Province to attend the two-day 22nd Iran-Pakistan joint border meeting held on Monday.

 

In addition to Iran-Pakistan’s 921 kilometers of joint land borders. the special geographic location of the two countries has enabled them to play critical role in the region’s security.
