Companies affiliated to the Oil Ministry on Monday signed 12 research and development contracts with nine universities and research institutions in the downstream petroleum secto. According to ILNA. the contracts were signed in the presence of Bijan Namdar Zanganeh. the oil minister. and Mohammad Farhadi. the minister of science. research and technology in Tehran on Monday.
The downstream sector is generally referred to the refining of crude oil and the processing of natural gas. as well as the marketing and distribution of products derived from crude oil and natural gas. The total value of contracts is worth 7.2 trillion rials (around $190 million).
Reportedly. four contracts were concluded between the National Petrochemical Company and Shiraz University. Amir Kabir University. Kharazmi University and the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran.
Shiraz University has also entered into an agreement to establish a research body to conduct surveys on light naphtha isomerization. Moreover. Amirkabir University is assigned to study prospects for producing propylene and polyolefin catalysts.
Five more agreements were signed between the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company and Tehran University. Isfahan University and Sharif University of Technology.
Furthermore. the National Iranian Gas Company signed three deals with University of Science and Industry and the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry to carry out research on producing liquefied natural gas.
Based on the NIGC agreement. the University of Science and Industry will carry out research on producing gas turbines as well as new methods to process sour gas.
