IAEA Not Authorized to Leak Iran’s Info to US

The International Atomic Energy Agency is banned by the 2015 nuclear deal from sharing Iran’s confidential nuclear data with the new US administration. a lawmaker said.
“The leakage of nuclear intelligence is a violation of JCPOA. The IAEA is not authorized to provide the US with that information.” Nozar Shafiei also said in a Friday talk with ICANA. referring to the agreement by its official title. the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
He was responding to recent media reports indicating that the newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump is likely to publish JCPOA-related confidential documents.
Shafiei noted that the Islamic Republic holds the IAEA responsible for any such leak that would constitute a breach of the accord’s provisions that involve a pledge of secrecy by the Vienna-based agency.
“The information that has been confided to the agency during its inspection of Iran’s nuclear sites must remain classified and any leak to outsiders. the US in particular. would be considered a breach of the commitments of P5+1 and IAEA.” he said.
P5+1 stands for a group of six powers. namely the United States. Britain. France. Russia and China plus Germany. that negotiated the nuclear agreement with Iran.
It has been in force since over a year ago to ease sanctions against Tehran in return for time-bound constraints on its nuclear work.
A final assessment report presented by the UN nuclear agency to its board of governors in the last days of 2015 ended the agency’s probe into Tehran’s past and present nuclear activities. clearing the path for the nuclear pact to take full effect. The IAEA is now tasked with monitoring and verifying Tehran’s commitments. Its reports so far have confirmed Iran’s full compliance with the action plan.
