The daily production of Egypt’s mammoth offshore Zohr gas field has exceeded 2 billion cubic feet per day. an official at the petroleum ministry told Al-Ahram Arabic news website.
Both Egypt and the Italian energy company Eni. which discovered the field in 2015. previously estimated that Zohr’s gas output would reach 2 billion cubic feet per day by September.
The Zohr field. located in the Mediterranean as part of the Shorouk concession in the Mediterranean. covers an area of 3.765 square kilometers. is the largest ever natural gas find in the Mediterranean.
The total gas in place in the field is estimated to be around 850 billion cubic metres.
If true. Zohr will almost double Egypt`s gas reserves.
Egypt announced earlier in the week it has stopped importing liquefied gas.
Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla said that the last shipment of imported liquefied gas arrived in Egypt in September.
Egypt is steadily achieving self-sufficiency of gas due to Zohr gas field. which has increased production by six times since January. Molla said in a statement.
