The Director of Petroleum and Gas Engineering Department of Pars Oil and Gas Company announced the start of drilling operations for the first exploratory-limiting well in the Kangan and Dalan structures of the eastern part of the South Pars gas field (Yalda Structure).
According to POGC, Ali Akbar Majed said the company had considered geographical appraisal of Phase 12 hydrocarbon reserves in order to maximize natural gas production from the offshore project in the Persian Gulf waters.
He added, in this regard, after conducting preliminary studies and obtaining approval from the Portfolio Council of Exploration Management of the National Iranian Oil Company, drilling an exploratory-limiting well in the geological structure of the eastern nose of South Pars gas field (Yalda Structure) was considered as a priority by the Petroleum and Gas Engineering Department of POGC in the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20.
The director of Oil and Gas Engineering Department of POGC said that one of the purposes of digging the first well in this area was to explore and describe the oil layers of Kangan and Dalan gas reservoirs, as well as Faraqan and Zakin sandstone formations.
Drilling operation began on April 18 by a Pasargad 100 drilling rig by POGC, he added.
