Nord Stream 2 expects regulators to decide by May whether its contested natural gas pipeline linking Germany to Russia will be able to operate as planned.

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg lashed out at the US over its push for sanctions to be slapped on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project.

A major Russian gas pipeline to Europe would be delayed due to US sanctions on the project. a slight setback to a German-Russian venture that has emerged as a major flashpoint in both countries’ relations with Washington.

Nord Stream 2 is the latest project in Putin’s plan for energy and geopolitical dominance in the world.

The US has been vigorously opposing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Russia has criticized US sanctions.

Majority stakeholder Gazprom has indicated it'.s already taken measures to complete the project while circumventing the US measures.

The completion of the project would be ``stretched`` by several months because of the sanctions.

With around 160 kilometers left. the pipeline is designed to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea.

Russia is expecting the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be completed very soon in spite of the obstacles.
