Russia’s Gazprom. Hungary Ink Deal to Boost Gas Transmission Capacity

Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller Hungary’s Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto discussed in Moscow on July 5 gas supplies to and gas storage in Hungary. as well as gas transit to third countries. a press release from the Russian gas monopoly read.

Miller and Szijjarto also addressed the development prospects of gas transmission capacities in the territory of Hungary. signing a roadmap to implement a number of measures aimed at developing Hungary’s gas transmission system.

In addition. Gazprom Export and Hungarian Gas Trade Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Miller and Szijjarto. which reflects the intent of the parties to continue long-term cooperation with regard to Russian gas supplies to Hungary.

Russia. which currently supplies gas to Hungary via Ukraine. could also supply Hungary with gas via the extension of the second line of the Turkish Stream pipeline in the future after 2019. according to Reuters. noting that international interconnectors between Hungary and possible trade partners Romania and Croatia also remain to be built.

In 2016. Russian gas exports to Hungary totaled 5.7 billion cubic metres. the Gazprom press release read. Hungarian Gas Trade Ltd (Magyar Földgázkereskedő Zrt.) is part of the MVM Group.
