Three new members – Mitsui &. Co. Novatek and Sumitomo have joined SEA LNG. the industry body that lobbies for increased take-up of LNG as marine fuel.
SEA LNG launched a year ago with a dozen members. It now has 28. The group is working to break down the commercial barriers that prevent adoption of LNG as a clean. commercially viable alternative bunker fuel.
Trading. investment and services giant Mitsui &. Co has interests in 11 LNG projects. including eight now in production. It is a partner in an LNG-bunkering pilot project in Singapore and is working with Gazprom to study LNG-bunkering.
Novatek is one of Russia’s largest independent producers of natural gas. Its most high-profile project is Yamal LNG. the vast 16.5 million tone a year production project in the Russian Arctic that is due to deliver its first cargoes this year.
Sumitomo is one of Japan’s largest trading firms. with a 65-year track record in bunker trading. It has interests in pipeline gas trading in the US. in owning and operating LNG carriers and a stake in proposed US LNG-export project Cove Point LNG.
“Our aim. since inception. was to form a coalition that unites key players from across the entire LNG value chain.“ says SEA LNG chairman and TOTE executive vice-president Peter Keller. “The addition of our three new members further strengthens our organization.“
