Iran to Build 2nd Phase of Major Petrochemical Complex in Southwestern Province

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh announced that his ministry is planning to construct the next phase of an important Petrochemical Complex located in Khuzestan province in Southwestern Iran.
`We are mulling construction of the second phase of the Imam Khomeini petrochemical complex located in a 1.000-hectare area in Khuzestan province.` Zangeneh said.
The Iranian oil minister. meantime. underlined the need to take the most out of available export capacities in the province. and said. `Despite certain barriers in the way of conducting exports to Iraq. the existing issues are surmountable with the help of local investors.`
In a relevant development in late July. it was reported that Iran`s petrochemical plants produced 18 million tons of products in the first 4 months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20. a new record in the industry`s 4-month output.
Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh. director of production control at National Petrochemical Company (NPC). said that given the sector`s performance in the period. the country will break a new record in petrochemical output in the current calendar year.
He said nearly 60% of petrochemicals produced by Iran are exported. adding the rest is sold on the domestic market.
Bossaqzadeh further added that the country is estimated to supply 56 million tons of petrochemicals during this calendar year from last year`s 51 mt.
This output will be 86% of the country`s rated production capacity.
