BP Launches New Vessel for Shah Deniz Stage 2 Project

BP-led Shah Deniz consortium has launched its new subsea construction vessel called Khankendi. which has been designed to support the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project in the Caspian Sea.The $378m vessel will be used to install subsea production systems in the Caspian Sea as a part of the project.
Weighing 17.600t. Khankendi is planned to be deployed at the Shah Deniz field where it will perform installation and construction works over the next 11 years.BP Azerbaijan. Georgia and Turkey regional president Gary Jones said: “We are proud to deliver this complex and truly multi-functional vessel. capable of installing the latest subsea production technology in the Caspian as part of the giant Shah Deniz Stage 2 project.`This is another great milestone for Shah Deniz. achieved in cooperation with a local service company. and we look forward to the essential support the Khankendi will provide.`

The vessel is equipped with two engine rooms with six 4.4MW generators and two 3.2MW units. along with a 900t main crane. an 18-man two-bell diving system. two work-class ROVs and a strengthened moon pool.BP stated that the crane is capable of placing 750t subsea structures as far as 600m below sea level.With a carrying capacity of 5.000mt. the vessel also exhibits dynamic positioning facility to allow working in wave heights of 3.5m.Baku Shipyard designed and built Khankendi. The facility is a joint venture between SOCAR. Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC). and Keppel O&amp.M.
