The 4th edition of Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) opened in Muscat. Oman. on Monday with the participation of 60 scientists from 17 countries at the Sultan Qaboos bin Qaboos University for four days.
At the opening ceremony of the conference. Iranian ambassador to Oman Nouri Shahroudi and a scientific delegation from Tehran were present.
On the sidelines of the conference. an exhibition of the latest achievements of Islamic countries in the fields of science and technology is open where eight Iranian companies are showcasing their latest products in the fields of nanotechnology and nano-medicine.
The event is co-organized by the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF) and Sultan Qaboos University.
In this round of STEP summit. Mustafa (PBUH) Prize laureates such as Jackie Ying. Prof. Erol Gelenbe and Prof. Mohammad Amin Shokrollahi will participate.
Earlier in January. Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council announced that an Iranian industrial group has managed to extend the reach of its nano-glass and nano-mirrors exports to 35 countries. including Italy. Germany. Sweden. Croatia. Poland. Greece. Spain. the UAE. Azerbaijan. South Africa. Tanzania. Brazil and Canada.
These nano-products have a nanometer-thin layer. and are used in windows and the facade of buildings to control the heat and cold. They are also used in the production of double-glazed windows with a low-heat transfer coefficient.
This industrial group. with 30 years of continuous activities. has now 15 industrial-manufacturing factories inside and outside the country. Their nano-products are exported to the countries as wide spread as to include the four continents of Asia. Europe. Africa and America.
Their latest products at the research and development unit include Eco Gold. Eco Bronze. Eco Blue. and Eco Silver. whose most notable features are appealing appearance and color. optimal energy efficiency in all seasons. high quality and better performance.
On Saturday. Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari announced that Iran stands atop the nations of the region in the production of science and technology.
`Now. Iran ranks first in the region in science and technology.` Sattari said. addressing a forum on stem cells in Tehran.
He also referred to Iran`s huge progress in the field of stem cells. and said that the country has been able to take over Turkey and Israel in this field.
Sattari underscored that Iran`s progress in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine has opened a door to the development of knowledge-based economy.
Iran has made huge progress in different sciences and technologies in recent years.
In relevant remarks in June. Sattari underlined that Iran`s international ranking in science production had risen from 34th to 16th.
`Iran ranks first in West Asia in terms of science output with the number of its college students rising to 4.8 million from 2.4 million.` Sattari said. addressing the second Iran-Europe Cooperation Conference in Brussels. Belgium.
He reiterated that Iran had made great progress in the fields of biotechnology. renewable energy. nanotechnology and stem cells.
Sattari said that there were 47 million internet users in Iran who constitute nearly half of the total Internet users in the Middle East. and added. `Iran ranks first in the Middle East for production of biological drugs.`
He said that Iran had one of the most successful biotech companies with young and skilled staff aged 33 on the average which exported biological drugs to 10 countries. Sattari said.
Of 39 technology parks existing in Iran. Paris park is one of the largest in West Asia which houses 200 companies and some of them export advanced technological products. he added.
