Pakistani Prime Minister’s Advisor on Commerce. Textile. Industries and Production said on Tuesday that his country is willing to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Iran. despite sanctions.
Pakistan has always given importance to its trade ties with Iran. said today Dawood. who serves as Pakistani Premier’s Advisor on Commerce. Textile. Industries and Production. in a meeting with a four-member Iranian delegation led by Head of Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani in Islamabad.
Dawood. who accompanied Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit to Iran. said that during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart. both sides agreed to enhance bilateral trade ties. He said we also expect that Iran’s minister for industry and commerce would soon visit Pakistan.
The PM`s adviser said that Iran and Pakistan need to make barter trade mechanism effective.
He added that Iran and Pakistan had signed a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) in 2006 but it has not been fully implemented. He noted that both countries should make PTA fully functional which would benefit both the states.
Amirabadi Farahani. for his part. said that Iran wants to enhance ties with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest.
On Monday. Amirabadi Farahani said that Tehran and Islamabad as two major powerhouses in the region are strong enough to jointly fight against US’ unfair sanctions.
He added that Pakistan is a major country of the region and an Eastern neighbor of Iran with which Tehran seeks to develop strong economic and political ties.
“We are also interested to develop border markets with Pakistan to enhance bilateral trade ties.“ said the Iranian lawmaker.
He added that Iran is very fortunate to have Pakistan as its neighbor. saying. `We strongly believe that Iran and Pakistan have the capacity to jointly fight against US unjustified sanctions and the cooperation between the two countries would enhance in this respect.`
Amirabadi Farahani was hopeful that Pakistani nation and the government would support Iran just like the country supported Pakistan and its people in troubled times.
The Iranian lawmaker said that they would also visit Pakistan’s financial hub Karachi to hold important meetings with business community of the city and government officials.
He said that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project would also come under discussion with Pakistani officials. He expressed hope that the project would be materialized soon.
