Iran to Reach A Major Security Goal by Staying in JCPOA

By (sticking to) the JCPOA. we will achieve a major political. security and defense goal next year. Rouhani said. addressing a huge gathering of people in the southeastern city of Kerman on Monday.

Iran has been banned by the United Nations from buying and selling any kinds of weapons for years. he said.

The arms embargo will end next year according to the JCPOA and the UN Security Council Resolution 2231. which endorses it. the president added.

If we keep the JCPOA. the arms embargo against Iran will be lifted. and we can easily buy and sell weapons and export them to the world. and it would be one of the important outcomes of that agreement. he stated.

Iran on Wednesday took the 4th step in reducing its commitments under the JCPOA in reaction to the continued failure of the European parties to meet their obligations to the agreement.

In May 2018. US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.

Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the JCPOA after the US withdrawal. but the three EU parties to the deal (France. Britain. and Germany) have failed to ensure Iran’s economic interests.

The EU’s inaction forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments to the nuclear deal. including a rise in the stockpile of enriched uranium.

Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the JCPOA but to save the accord by creating a balance in the commitments.
