Iran to Reconstruct Syria`s Ravaged Water. Sewage Infrastructures

Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian announced that Tehran and Damascus will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which paves the ground for Iran`s cooperation with Syria in reconstruction of its water and sewage infrastructures destroyed during war.

Ardakanian made the announcement on Wednesday following a meeting with Syria’s Minister for Water Resources Nabil al-Hassan in Tehran.

He said the MoU detailing plans and investment needed for the repair projects will be signed between the two sides on Thursday.

This MoU can create a mechanism for contribution of the Iranian companies to dam construction. hydroelectric power plants and building sewage treatment facilities (in Syria). said the Iranian minister while briefing the reporters.

He said that deputy ministers from the two countries will head a joint a committee to monitor progress on various plans and projects. adding that an executive phase of the works will begin soon after expert delegations from the two sides visit the projects in Syria.

Syrian minister al-Hassan. for his part. elaborated on previous statements by Syrian officials that Iranian companies will have the upper hand in reconstructions projects in the Arab country.

Iran has already embarked on various projects in Syria. a country where years of foreign-backed militancy has led to a massive destruction of the infrastructure.

Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud. in a conference in Tehran on Tuesday. voiced his country’ enthusiasm for having Iranian companies and investors in the reconstruction of the war-torn country.

Addressing a conference on investment opportunities in Syria. held at Trade Promotion Organization of Iran this morning. Mahmoud said that grounds have been paved for the participation of Iranian investors and contractors in different sectors of the Syrian economy.

He said the Syrian government considers the Iranian private sector its main partner in the reconstruction and economic projects.
