GE Renewable Energy has signed an agreement to provide cybersecurity for wind farms in the US.
It aims to secure the entire existing fleet of turbines as well as future wind farms for Invenergy by digitally upgrading and protecting them from hackers.
The 10-year. $13 million (£10m) deal is said to be “one of the largest cybersecurity agreements in the history of the Industrial Internet”.
Jim Shield. Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Invenergy said: “As online threats multiply and the electric grid goes digital. cybersecurity is a top priority for Invenergy.
“We are proud of our collaboration with the GE Digital team to develop a long term. enterprise-wide cybersecurity agreement that met our operational needs.”
GE Renewable Energy is also providing turbines for Invenergy’s 300MW Santa Rita wind farm in Texas.
New research revealed two-thirds (65%) of UK businesses are concerned about cyber attacks as new technologies like smart meters are being installed.
