Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said on Tuesday that the upcoming visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Tehran will mark a turning point in bilateral relations between the two countries. adding that the date for the visit has not been set yet.
Mousavi said today that the visit of Shinzo Abe to Tehran has not been confirmed yet and stressed that it would be a turning point in bilateral relations between the two countries.
The date of Abe’s Tehran visit is still under discussion. Mousavi told reporters today during his first weekly press briefing after being appointed as Foreign Ministry`s spokesman.
On Friday. Mousavi had dismissed the news relayed by some media on upcoming visit of Abe to Tehran in June. adding that the time for the visit of the Japanese premier to Tehran has not been set yet.
Earlier on Friday. Kyodo news agency had reported that Prime Minister Abe is mulling over a visit to Iran in June.
“Iran and Japan enjoy historic and friendly relations. there has always been dialogues between officials of the two countries. as the meetings between heads of the two states at international events or recent visit of Iran foreign minister to Japan.“ said Mousavi.
“(Iranian) President (Hassan) Rouhani has already invited Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for an official visit to Tehran. and he has responded that the visit will be made at the appropriate time.“ noted the diplomat. adding. “So some media reports and speculations are not true and valid.“
Back in April. Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono stated that Tokyo will not follow Washington in designating the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. stressing that his country maintains its relationship with Tehran.
Japan does not intend to toe the United States line on its decision to designate the IRGC as a terrorist group. Kono told reporters on April 09. adding that Tokyo has preserved its close ties with Tehran.
Tokyo will just mention the major points and will continue solving problem through negotiations. he noted.
