Expanding Ties with Asian Countries Tehran’s Foreign Policy Priority

During his Tuesday meeting with Prime Minister Lee. President Rouhani asserted that expanding all-out relations with Asian countries is atop the priorities of Tehran’s foreign policy.

He told the Singaporean premier that the current volume of trade and the extent of economic cooperation between Tehran and Singapore is much lower than the capacities of the two sides. and called for further efforts to strengthen economic and commercial relations.

Reminding that Iran and Singapore are both joining the EAEU. Rouhani highlighted that the two new members can tap into the opportunity and further increase bilateral relations. particularly in the realm of economy.

Lee. for his part. admitted that the volume of trade and economic relations between the two sides does not meet the capacities. and voiced his strong will for making up the deficit.

Back in April 2018. Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce. Industries. Mines and Agriculture Gholamhossein Shafeyee met with with Singapore’s non-resident ambassador to Tehran. Ong Keng Yong. and said. We are attempting to work out an effective solution to establish banking relations between the two countries.

Increasing the capacities for economic cooperation as well as making joint investments were among the targets of officials of Iran and Singapore to expand trade relations by removing the obstacles.

Later in December 2018. Iranian Ambassador to Singapore Javad Ansari. in a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Sports Council Lim Teck Yin. called for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two states in all fields. especially in area of sports.
