Nord Stream 2 expects regulators to decide by May whether its contested natural gas pipeline linking Germany to Russia will be able to operate as planned.

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg lashed out at the US over its push for sanctions to be slapped on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project.

The construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline will be completed despite the threat of US sanctions because European nations have a clear economic interest in the project. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

The German government rejects such extraterritorial sanctions.

US lawmakers fear the pipeline. which is 80 percent finished. would bring Russia billions of dollars and increase Russian influence in Europe.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is scheduled to be put into operation in late 2019.

Russian gas is cheaper and better in terms of quality.

The size of the plant is at least three times the size of similar plants operated by OMV Petrom in Romania.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will invest $5 billion in an oil refinery project in Pakistan by the end of the year.

French energy giant Engie. Shell of the Netherlands. and two German companies. Uniper and Wintershall Dea. are all financing partners of the 9.5 billion euros project.
