Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed that the Nord Stream 2 project must not be politicized.

Russia is building the Nord (North) Stream 2 gas pipeline by linking Russia and Germany via the Baltic seabed.

The United States is showing interest in the participation of Russian businesses.

The Nord Stream-2 pipeline is going to be 1.2 thousand km long. with capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The project has seen strong opposition from the European Commission as increasing EU'.s dependence on Russian gas and undermining Ukrainian transit.

In early July. US President Donald Trump announced that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline would make Germany ``hostage`` to Russia.

Poland buys most of the gas it consumes from Russia but has taken steps to reduce that reliance.

Both leaders raised concerns about Syria and the plight of the many refugees created by the seven-year-old war there.

The gas pipeline project is currently on the agenda of the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
