PDVSA and Maduro’s government could have a much harder time finding destinations for Venezuelan oil than first thought.

The Trump administration last week issued crippling sanctions on Venezuelan state-owned oil firm PDVSA.

Russian energy giant Rosneft has loaned more than $6bn to PDVSA.

PDVSA uses naphtha from the US to thin its heavy crude so it can be shipped.

The US has sanctioned Nicaragua’s Albanisa company. which exports and sells Venezuelan oil products.

The sanctions aim to freeze sale proceeds from PDVSA’s exports of roughly 500.000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil to the United States.

Maduro and the Venezuelan people are resisting this coup attempt by the interventionist North American country.

Over 3.000 US companies are listed in the register of trading companies in Venezuela.
