Poland is Surprised that EU Wants to Continue Dependence on Gazprom

During an official visit to the Lithuanian capital. Polish President Andrzej Duda criticized Nord Stream-2. a gas pipeline between Russia and Germany that would bypass Poland. Ukraine and the Baltic states. Polskie Radio reports. Duda said. `I want to express my surprise that the EU. particularly the more Western members. wants to become dependent on Gazprom. the Russian gas monopoly.“

He said. `We (Poland) have experience [with Russia]. We are also keeping an eye on the experience of Ukraine. against which the reduction of gas supplies is used as a weapon in the hybrid war being conducted against this country.` Duda emphasized that Poland is taking measures to reduce energy dependence on Russia. including opening a terminal in Świnoujście. in the north of the country. which receives gas from Qatar.

The Nord Stream-2 project includes the construction and operation of two branches of a gas pipeline with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
