Daewoo Shipbuilding Delivers LNG Ship with Full Re-Liquefaction System

Daewoo Shipbuilding &amp. Marine Engineering Co. said Tuesday it has delivered a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier with a full re-liquefaction system (FRS) to a client. paving the way for additional orders for ships with the high-end system.

It is a major achievement for the world`s second-biggest shipbuilder by orders as the company now has the technology to build LNG ships with either the partial re-liquefaction system (PRS) or the FRS system. Daewoo Shipbuilding said in a statement.

In 2016. Daewoo Shipbuilding delivered an LNG ship with the PRS system to a client for the first time in the market. Most of the LNG ship orders the company has received so far this year include the FRS system. the statement said.

The company also has the technology to apply the FRS system to an LNG ship powered either by a high-speed ME-GI engine or by a low-speed X-DF dual-fuel engine. a spokesperson said.

As the FRS technology allows an LNG ship to fully liquefy evaporated gas. shippers are increasingly placing orders for LNG ships with the advanced technology. he said.

As of the end of May. DSME had $22.4 billion worth of orders. or 96 ships. in its order backlog.
