A photovoltaic (PV) power station is planned to be built at Tehran`s southern wastewater treatment complex to promote power generation from renewables. the managing director of Tehran Province Water and Wastewater Company said in a statement.
According to Asghar Riazati. the 400-kilowatt (0.4 megawatt) plant will be made up of 1600 tiny solar cells with 250-kilowatt capacity and 20 inverters which convert variable electric currents and feed the renewable energy into the power grid. ILNA reported on Wednesday.
Preliminary studies for the power station have been completed and an investor will be decided through a tender. The plant is forecast to be built in six months and the contractor will be licensed to operate the power station for 20 years. said the official.
Part of the plant`s output will be used to run the facilities of the wastewater treatment complex and the remainder will be supplied to the power grid. The PV station is estimated to produce 648 MW of electricity per year.
The plant will help reduce harmful emissions. supplying part of the electricity demand of the wastewater treatment facility and selling the surplus. Riazati noted.
The government approved a plan last year mandating state organizations to meet 20% of their electricity demand through renewable installations at buildings.
Tehran is pushing forward with measures to cut fossil fuel emissions and meet its climate obligations as part of a landmark global pact to curb climate change.
Representatives of 195 countries including Iran signed a historic agreement in Paris last December to curb global emissions of greenhouse gases and limit the planet’s warming to under 2°C. preferably 1.5°C. by 2100.
Iran’s pledge is to decrease emissions by 4% in 15 years. but officials say with sufficient international help Iran can reduce its emissions by 12%.
