Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas plans to stop four Russian wind projects in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine, Danish newspaper Ekstra-Bladet reported citing company spokesperson.
The four projects that are currently in the development phase include Novoalekseevskaya, Grazhdanskaya, Ivanovskaya, and Pokrovskaya. They have a combined capacity of 253MW, according to Reuters.
The news agency noted that the Vestas did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Vestas was selected for these projects by a consortium that includes Russia’s Gazprombank and Finnish firm Fortum.
The Danish company is said to have been developing these four renewable projects since September last year.
Earlier this month, Vestas said that it will suspend all its new commercial activities in the Russia according to a reNEWS report.
The decision was made by the wind turbine maker after experiencing difficulties in manufacturing, construction and transportation activities due to the war.
Vestas is understood to have also condemned the Russian government for its military offensive in Ukraine.
Apart from Vestas, many companies have announced stern measures in response to the Russian military invasion on Ukraine.
Fortum decided to suspend all its new investments in Russia until further notice.
Currently, the Finnish firm operates seven thermal power plants in the country through its Russian arm, according to Reuters.
In another development, Ukraine informed International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) saying that the shelling from Russian military has damaged a new nuclear research facility in Kharkiv city. The nuclear research facility is used for producing radioisotopes for medical and industrial applications.
