Iran Ready to Hold Talks with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait on Joint Development of Arash Gas Field

Iran is ready to hold talks with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait on the joint development of the Arash gas field (called Durra in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Saeed Khatibzadeh said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to Khatibzadeh, as Iran has repeatedly stated, it is ready to continue talks with Kuwait on the delimitation and demarcation of the Arash gas field, as well as to hold talks with Kuwait and Saudia Arabia to determine the situation of the three countries on this field.
The spokesman also added that the Arash gas field is a joint gas field between Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Some parts of the field have not been delimited and demarcated between Iran and Kuwait.
“According to international norms, any step on the development of the Arash gas field must be carried out in cooperation with the three countries. Under these norms, the cooperation document signed between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia on the development of this field contradicts the talks on the field. At the same time, it will not affect the legal status of the field, and the document is not approved by Iran,” he said.
Khatibzadeh noted that Iran reserves the right to use the Arash gas field.
The Arash gas field is located in the Persian Gulf among Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The field reportedly contains 20 trillion cubic feet (about 600 billion cubic meters) of gas and about 310 million barrels of oil.
On March 21, 2022, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait signed an agreement on the development of the Dorra (Arash) gas field.
According to the agreement, daily 1 billion cubic feet (about 28.3 million cubic meters) of gas and 84,000 barrels of gas condensate will be extracted from the mentioned field.
