The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has given the green light to restart the ethylene plant, the largest station for producing petrochemicals in North Africa, after a hiatus of more than eight years.
“The NOC Chairman and board members praise the efforts of the company’s management and employees to restart this edifice that has been suspended for years,” a readout by the company said.
Meanwhile, Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Manufacturing Company confirmed that operations are taking place step by step per the safety and production procedures.
The company considered the restart of the complex -established in 2019- a major landmark, as this was achieved amid difficult and exceptional circumstances of force majeure and campaigns of distortion, skepticism, and frustration, as it put it.
It may be worth noting that the ethylene plant was inaugurated on April 15, 1987, by the Yugoslavian company HEP before operations were handed over to Ras Lanuf Company with Libyan cadres during the year 1992.
