Kazakhstan is in talks with China on transit for export of uranium, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan said.
Kazatomprom is transporting uranium to North America and Europe via a port in St. Petersburg.
Alternative route is transportation through the Caspian Sea, where the port of Aktau (Kazakhstan), port of Alyat (Azerbaijan) and port of Poti (Georgia) are used.
“The talks with China are ongoing with the purpose of diversification of routes. Currently, China National Uranium Corporation and China Nuclear Energy Industry, subsidiaries of China National Nuclear Company and Kazatomprom, work on the agreement to transit uranium through the territory of China,” the Ministry of Energy said.
