Russia can ensure a steady supply of energy resources to China that it needs, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
“China and Russia complement one another, I am talking about the high pace of development of the Chinese economy and the demand for energy resources. China needs these shipments to be stable, Russia is capable of ensuring such stability,” Putin said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin for the “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” program aired on the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel on Saturday.
“There is talk here about using national currencies. If we use the yuan in energy sales to third countries, this will be a very serious step,” he said.
“Because we do not need dollars very much, import is closed, there is no particular point in us clinging to the dollar. We will not be in a hurry, in that respect,” Putin said.
The Russian-Chinese talks had focused heavily on the economic side of the bilateral relationship, he said.
“We will aim to join our efforts in most promising high-tech sectors where we have a certain high, well-established level of competitiveness on world markets,” Putin said.
