The 165th day of Russian aggression and war against Ukraine is coming to an end. Unpunished evil always returns and commits a bigger crime. Unfortunately, the lessons of Russian aggression against Georgia on 8 August 2008 and the beginning of the war against Ukraine in 2014 were not learned by NATO and the EU.
Partially it made Russia feel unpunished for its crimes and violations of international law, human rights, state sovereignty, and many other pillars of the existing international order. As a result, in February this year, we observed the beginning of the biggest war of the 21 century so far. Now Russia is threatening the biggest nuclear station in Europe (6th in the world), Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya.
This threatens to kill millions of people in Ukraine and other European countries. Russia must be fully isolated from the civilised world with no negotiations possible until it starts to follow international rule once again.
During last week Ukrainian Armed forces concentrated on deterring Russian terrorists on all fronts (invaders did not proceed in their occupation of Ukraine despite many attempts). The most important component for Ukraine’s defence continued (and continues) to be artillery, particularly long-ranged MLRS systems.
With their help, the Ukrainian army is destroying the logistic system of Russian aggressors and eliminating their command centres, military bases, armoured vehicles, tanks and other systems and critical infrastructure for Russian war logistics, especially in the South of Ukraine in the Kherson region. For instance, yesterday, Ukrainian Armed forces successfully hit several bridges over the Dnipro river making Russian troops in Kherson (the only big captured city of Ukraine) isolated from new supplies.
Having no significant results on the battlefields, Russia decided to focus on nuclear attacks.
Right now, Russian terrorists are periodically attacking with shells and bombs the biggest nuclear station in Europe that they had captured in the South of Ukraine, Zaporizhzhya. They have already damaged some of the equipment, which may cause an emergency, according to the announcement of Ukrainian personnel who are still operating the station.
One of the Russian terrorist generals announced that they had mined the nuclear station and could blow it up at a moment’s notice. It is now shall be the main question for the US, NATO and Europe to work out how to stop one of the biggest nuclear threats of our time.
All the measures, instruments and tools should be used. Appeals to Ukraine to stop resistance will not work because we will fight till the end.
For Ukraine, these nuclear threats are not working. We are not afraid of them because if we do not stop Russian aggressors, we will lose everything, including our homes, country, state and lives. So Ukraine, its people, and its Armed forces will fight until the total liberation of Ukrainian territories.
It is sad to observe many world politicians and even international organisations are trying to help this dangerous aggressor with appeals to make a peace treaty in Ukraine at the cost of Ukraine; it’s occupied territories and lost lives of tens of thousands of Ukrainian people.
One such international organisation became Amnesty International with a report about the danger that the Ukrainian army brings to civilians by defending the country. Unfortunately, such key international organisations as the UN, OSCE, and Committee of Red Cross do not protect Ukraine as a victim of open military aggression and many war crimes. They do not protect Ukrainian citizens, including children, that were taken to Russia under pressure and use of force (for now, there are more than one million). They do not help to protect Ukrainian war prisoners (there are thousands of them now) who are regularly tortured and massively killed in Russia or occupied territories, as was recently done to Ukrainian prisoners from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol in the village of Olenivka.
But these organisations have enough arrogance to accuse Ukraine in its self-defence against its attacker. This is a big shame and problem for the current international order as it demands a profound change of roles of such organisations that are not capable of performing their primary functions.
Ukraine’s war showed that key international organisations for the protection of the civilian population in war are useless and helpless for different reasons. So they will have to be either deeply reformed or changed to new ones. But this can happen only after Russia’s military defeat and punishment.
The Ukrainian society, of course, is tired of war but understands that there is only a way left for us now: to fight until the victory or the end. People are suffering, not happy but trying to do everything possible for success.
For this reason, there is rather massive Ukrainian resistance to the occupation by Russian terrorist territories. Every day almost every Ukrainian is asking themselves what possible could be done for the victory and how to do it. These are current Ukrainian realities, and we will go through these hardships with dignity.
