Turkey wants to discuss with Russia the special price of natural gas being imported from Russia, announced the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar.
“In 2023, we signed a [natural] gas contract with Russia at very special prices. We have such a program for 2024 and 2025. Of course, we have an agreement and a resolution, but we say: ‘As Turkey, we want a special price for ourselves,’” the minister told Milliyet daily.
“We have a very big contract that ends at the end of 2025. There’s the Blue Stream [i.e. the trans-Black Sea pipeline that carries natural gas to Turkey from Russia]. We want to introduce a mechanism that will protect both us and the country that produces [natural] gas. There should be a maximum threshold and minimum prices which we call ‘tunnel pricing,’” Bayraktar added.
According to him, the price of Russian natural gas and the process of signing a new contract are being held simultaneously.
