China Boosts Daily Gas Intake from Gazprom by 20%

China appetite for Russian gas is surging, with daily supplies from the Power of Siberia pipeline exceeding its contractual volumes by 20%, Kallanish Energy reports.
Russian gas giant Gazprom said in a note on Monday that it continues increasing its gas supplies to China via the pipeline, with volumes from the Chayandinskoye field.
“For the first time on October 19 this year, the daily volume of Russian gas supplies at the request of the Chinese side exceeded the obligations under the contract,” Gazprom said in a brief note.
The Power of Siberia pipeline completed a scheduled maintenance last month ahead of the peak winter season. The 3,000-km system is contracted to deliver 38 billion cubic meters per year (Bcm/y) of gas to CNPC, under a 30-year agreement.
Its launch in December 2019 marked the first-ever pipeline delivery of Russian gas to China.
Gazprom didn’t specify the actual daily delivery obligations to CNPC.
