Kazakhstan to Elaborate Creation of Central Asian Hydropower Consortium by December 2023

Kazakhstan will elaborate creation of the hydropower consortium of Central Asia, according to the action plan of the concept of development of water resources management system until 2029.
The Ministry of Ecology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security Committee will work on this. The information on the progress of the project will be submitted to the Government of Kazakhstan by December 2023.
Based on the tripartite agreement between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on the use of water and energy resources of the Syrdarya river basin of 1998, it was proposed to give the international hydropower consortium the authority to determine the modes of water discharges from reservoirs (including reservoirs on the Naryn River) and overflows of electricity.
