In a press conference, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy’s CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi revealed the brand name and the logo.
Al-Kaabi said:
• This follows a historic evolution that saw Qatar Petroleum Company (QPC) transform into Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QGPC), then becoming Qatar Petroleum (QP), some 20 years ago and QatarEnergy (QE) today
The new logo represents 2 components of the company’s identity: the green molecules evoke renewable energy while the blue emblem represents LNG.
Al-Kaabi noted:
• With a new logo and brand identity QatarEnergy will continue to deliver the cleaner energy that the world needs and to play its role as an active partner in search for better solutions in the ongoing energy transition
• Becoming QatarEnergy reflects our understanding of the global changes and our response to the need to protect our planet and its environment
• Not only will our LNG projects bring additional cleaner energy to customers across the globe, but we will continue our heightened commitment to our central role in the global energy transition
QatarEnergy’s CEO said that natural gas would remain part of the energy transition and would be needed for at least a few decades.
The company’s strategy establishes a number of targets, aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement, and sets in motion a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
It stipulates deploying dedicated carbon capture & storage facilities to capture more than 7 million tons per annum of CO2 in Qatar.
The strategy will also help reduce the emissions intensity of Qatar’s LNG facilities by 25 % and of its upstream facilities by at least 15 %, while reducing flare intensity across upstream facilities by more than 75 %.
