Russia in July took over second place in terms of natural gas supplies to China, regarding total gas supplies in pipeline and liquefied form, surpassing Australia, and consolidated its position in August, China’s customs service said.
Turkmenistan has been the largest supplier of gas to China since the beginning of the year.
Turkmenistan delivered 2.9 billion cubic meters of gas to China in August; Russia delivered 2.4 bcm, including more than one bcm in the form of LNG, which was a new all-time high in the history of deliveries; and Australia delivered 2.278 bcm.
China in August 2022 overall purchased 13.196 bcm of gas, down 4%, including 5.528 bcm through pipelines, up 10%, to an all-time high, and 7.668 bcm, or 5.897 million tonnes, in the form of LNG. Purchases of LNG in August decreased 12% amid an increase in the average import price of this type of fuel by 53%.
In Russia, LNG is produced by Sakhalin Energy of Gazprom , Mitsui, and Mitsubishi; and Yamal LNG of Novatek , TotalEnergies , China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and SRF.
